weird charlie horse problem, what is wrong with me?

for the past couple of years I would get a charlie horse pain in my foot every month or so. Lately it has been everyday or several times a week and the other night I woke up with a horrible one in my calf muscle. Has anyone else had this problem or know what could be going on?

Actually, these "charlie" horses can be a sign that you are potassium and magnesium deficient. Potassium and magnesium are necessary for healthy muscle maintenance and contraction, and this is a sign that your muscles are contracting too forcefully and too much.

My suggestion is this. Try to take in more foods with potassium: Bananas are a great source! Or you can easily buy over the counter supplements at the local pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS. Take the dose prescribed nightly for a month or so and see where you are at the end of the month and if the charlie horses have decreased.

I usually experience these kinds of problems when I have let my regular exercise program get away from me. As long as I am doing a regular routine I find no problems, it's the lack of one that is the problem. Next time you get a charlie horse, dig your fingers right into the middle of it, that usually gets them to stop for me, at least it stops the pain and from the charlie horse from getting worse.
