Hi

I wondered if you can tell me if after taking thyroxine for a while should ones weight return to normal, as I have put on a stone in the last year and hoped that it would drop off once my medication was up and running. I started taking my correct dosage in June and it is now August and not much has changed. I can't fit into any of my trousers and have had to throw them away which is depressing. :(I was also wondering has anyone changed their diet completely since being diagnoised, I was reading that carbs aren't good for people with a thyroid condition but find it really difficult to not eat bread for lunch as I usually take sandwiches to work as it is quick and not too expensive. Some books suggest vegetables and lentils and herbal teas but I wondered if this really makes any difference to the weight issue. I have 3 meals a day at the moment, all quite healthy but still with carbs and the weight won't budge. Should I become a gym bunny and start going every day?I don't think I have the energy quite frankly. I would be pleased to hear about others experiences. Cheers!:)

Taking thyroid pills won't take off the pounds, even if thyroid trouble is what caused the weight gain.

Diet (less than 1200 calories a day) and exercise (30m or more 3 to 4 times a week) is the only thing that can help you lose weight. Exercise doesn't have to be cardio, a brisk walk 30m a day is fine.

Don't make the mistake I did and try a too severe diet, I lost a ton of weight and promptly gained a ton and a half back!:p Slow and steady, moderation is the key.

Hi,

I guess moderation is the key, regular exercise and a good diet. I think I need to up the exercise and cut down on the cheese sandwiches! and also not get too stressed, little by little! Thanks Leela.
