Weight loss while I am not allowed to exercise?

I have an injury and I'm not allowed to exercise except for gentle walking for 1 to 2 hours per day and physical therapy sessions. I have gained some weight since the injury occurred in march and is still not healed.

I did the Atkins, low carb diet a few years ago and lost 23 lbs in 1 month and I stopped and am considering going back on it. The problem was, I got really bad leg cramps while on this diet. How can I combat this and still stick to the low carb regimen?

I have also lost muscle because of my forced inactivity. I was very active pre-injury. Help. LOL

To lose weight, all you need to do is eat less calories then your body needs.
For example
Your body requires 3000 calories per day. You eat 2500. 3000-2500=500. So each day you'll be burning off 500 calories, instead of eating them.
3500 calories in a pound.
500*7=1lb per week.
