The album opens with "Tired Of Sex" with features an annoying bassline and Rivers trademark punch me in the face vocals, the lyrics feature him whining about how hes getting laid BUT CANT FIND TRUE LOVE, I don't know whether the songs sarcastic or not I hope it is otherwise the lyrics are laughable. Lyrically the album seem to be just more of what we saw on the blue album, nerdy anthems and Rivers uncreative highschool bitching. Soundwise its a louder album, but that doesn't work since alot of times one instrument seems to be out of place because its too loud, the bass on Tired Of Sex and the drums in No Other one, etc. seem to drown out the others. The album has some highlights like El Scorcho but those are just highlights because in comparison to alot of the bad songs the mediocre ones seem good.

I don't understand why this is one of the most praised albums of the 90s, it seems to me like a generic sunny day real estate rip off except with awful lyrics and no angelic vocals. So yeah, in summary if i wanna hear a sexually frustrated nerd bitch ill play halo.

Rating: 2.5/10

this was pretty popular when I was in college, a few songs were tolerable for me, but it hasn't aged well, I can take or leave it

Funny thing is, music from my childhood has mostly aged well in my ears, but music from college I can't stand to listen to. Of course, most of the college years was the grunge rip oRAB

Every emo I know seems to think very highly of this album, I have it, and its good, but its not among Weezers best work. This album is just a bit too... depressing. A far cry from their more upbeat, poppy stuff.

In fact, Cuomo himself dispises this album.

I can't stand this album. It has the weirdest topics in it. *** women, red heaRAB, not liking a Green Day concert, etc. The sounRAB annoy me. It's the only Weezer album I don't like. I love Blue, Green, and Make Believe.

But there are a few things I like about this album. "Tired of Sex" is one of my favorite Weezer songs. "Getchoo" is good too. "El Sorcho" is hilarious at the beginning of it with the sounRAB but still annoying at the same time. And "Butterfly" is has a nice acoustic feel to it and it's a nice sentiment. But overall, this album isn't me. I tried to like it as the big Weezer fan that I am. But I just can't.

Because Weezer are at their best when they stick to the power pop, Pinkerton was somewhat of an experiment to test Cuomos songwriting range, it was through that album that Cuomo realised his limititions, and this is why Weezer reverted back to their old style with The Green Album and have remained that way since.

It is?

I remember it getting totally slated when it came out.
I think it topped at least 3 different magazines 'worst album of the 1996' polls.

Yeah Rolling Stone called it the worst album of 1996 but later changed that. I still think it is a very decent album but not as good as The Blue Album.

yea, Blue went 3x platinum and Pinkerton only went gold. The Green album went platinum with more than double the sales of pinkerton. Although i do like a lot of tracks on Pinkerton.

wow wow wow.......... i actually was gonna go on here and wanted to know if anyone thought this album was as great as i thought it was..

i think it's a fkin kick ass album, though the blue album and the rest of them were all pretty good. with some really punchy and catchy songs.. this was one of their most honest albums!

depressing it was but often the most depressing works in music/art/literature etc. are the best ones.

not to mention the sound of the album was really great and original.. nothing like their other albums where in my opinion sounded a bit too clean.. this is one of my all time favourite albums...

only a true weezer fan would understand, this album helped through a lot of rough times in my life.

I remember hating it as a follow up to the blue album but then it slowly grew on me. "Why Bother" is a great track... especially at that time when I was in college not really getting laid.

Around here its usually rated higher than Green Album but not as high as Blue Album on all the radio station polls, in fact I decided to write this after it getting number 20 something.

That's part of the charm, silly. It's one of the only pop punk albums worth listening to. It's ambitious in its use of the opera "Madame Butterfly" as an under-sketch and very clever in its offbeat variations on the genre's lyrical norms.

the blue album = genius.
everything else by weezer = mediocre/bad
the green album was pretty decent i guess.

the red album is gonna be balls too.

(the bad kind)
