website design help .php?

Hi,
I am looking to create a website where you can view standard web pages of events, users have the option to log-in and add that event to their online diary, the diary needs to have editable values such as times and dates, the option to print or download is also required.
Other feature i am looking into is allowing the user to upload pictures from the events ect also let them have a profile.
i looked into using "elgg" to achieve this but wonder what others opinions are, please provide advice for what format to use, another application such like elgg or if you interested in creating a website like this.
 
I can certainly create a website like this. But if you are just starting out, I wouldn't advise you jump into something of this nature.
 
This one will be tough for a lot of people...
so for your first steps learn:
html
php
css
mysql

focus on php and mysql by searching for multiple tutorials on different sites

then this should come easy... If you do not want to do this then you can get someone to help...
