Web Programming: How to use forward slash URLS instead of .html?

Ive been designing websites and the way the pages within the sites come up is:

Home: w.Example.com
About: w.Example.com/about.html
Contact: w.Example.com/contact.html

I would love to just make it

w.Example.com/about

WITHOUT the dot HTML. How do I do this? Cant find it anywhere on the internet!!!
