About 6 years ago I got an inflamed achilles tendon. It was so bad that I was in a plaster cast for 2 weeks, and couldn't walk properly for months afterwards. When it got better I took up hiking, but I always wear trainers/sneakers. This is because the doctor told me not to wear shoes that rub the achilles tendon. I can cut the backs off trainers and this prevents the problem from coming back.
However, now I want to go trekking in the Andes and I've been told that I must wear hiking boots. What can I do about this? I need boots that won't rub the achilles tendon.
