Hi,

This is my first post on this site.

I have been taking Xanax after severe panic attack and anxiety for almost 3 years. I started with .5mg three times daily and I increased it to 4 per day over the past year.

I still have some anxiety but decided to wean off the Xanax after having some short memory issues.

Last week, I cut my dosage to .5mg in the morning, .25mg at noon ad .25 mg in afternoon.

I am planning to reduce my dosage in 4 weeks to .25mg in the morning and .125 at lunch and afternoon and after 4 weeks to reduce it further for 4 more weeks and stop it.

I have read many articles about weaning off Xanax and different approaches such as using Valium and water solutions.

I am not in a very big hurry to wean off as I do not wish to have severe withdrawal side effects. I am however determined to stop this med for good.

My question then does my approach to wean off Xanax is appropriate? My doctor wanted me to drop .5mg every 3 days which I think it was too fast. I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks
Joe

If you dont mind me asking, what were your physical symptoms of the panic attacks? As for the Xanax does it do the job for you? I take it also for panic attacks and really take it as needed. I don't take it every day, so I would advise to just decrease your dosage from 3 times a day to 2 then to 1. You can do it over a couple of weeks. With your dosages so small you should not have a problem coming off of the them.
