I'm trying to learn how to wean off suboxone. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Bugs
Welcome to the board. I too am weaning off this stuff. I have found the best way is to take a 1/8th less one day then alternate for a week. Stabalize for a week or 2 then take it down another 1/8th by alternating days. I went from 16 Mgs to 8 easily. I am now down to about 6/7 mgs a day and getting ready for another drop. The 1st couple of days you might feel a little off but it is nothing severe. As you get lower the side effects will increase but you will stabalize.

I also suffer from chronic pain and the suboxone definetly helps. I take 800 mg ibuprohine too. If there was not the stigma of this being a med for drug abusers I would probably stay on a low dose, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
Keep your head up and be well

Hi, also when u start to taper i would switch to subutex for easier dosing those pills are same with no naloxone but come in varied sizes all the way down to 0.2 mg, saves tryin to judge breakin up a 4mg suboxone!

Hi Bugs and Welcome.

Slow and steady wins this race. The goal is to taper slowly, but it really depenRAB on how long you've been on it. If you've just started, it might be best to taper more quickly, before your body gets acclimated. If you've been using it for a long time, then slow is the way to go. Either way, what I found is the last 1mg -> .5mg was the absolute most difficult. Going from 6-4 or 4 to 2 was not hard. It's the last bit where many of us fail. The good news is, that once you've stabilized at between .25 and .5mg, the w/d can be very mild. To make it easier, only dose once per day. The other consideration is that this is a very long half life t1/2 drug, somewhere around 37 hours. So, it's possible to go to every other day dosing as well. (I didn't, but some swear by it). Hope this helps! BTW, this is just based on my experience - I'm not an MD.

Best,

Raz
