Ways to make boring sports more exciting,?

Horse racing - Have the jockey ride the horse for half a mile, than get off the horse, pick the horse up onto his shoulders and race another half a mile. A near-midget that can carry a horse is more impressive than him whipping a horse for a mile.

Nascar - Equip the cars with "spyhunter" type gadgets: oil slicks, grenade launchers, spiked tires etc..

any other ideas?
