water sound in ear? can't figure it out.

Hi

about 5 months ago I woke up one morning feeling very dizzy and had this sense of vertigo for almost a month (so bad that I couldn't do anything). Then a week or so while I was having this I heard loud water noises in my left ear in the middle of the night.

Now a couple of times a week I'll start feeling dizzy for a couple of hours and hear popping, rushing, and dripping noises in my left ear.

My doctor said she can't find anything or any fluid behind my ears and even if there was it should drain within a week.

In addition when chewing food I'll hear a splashing sound behind my jaw (below my ear).

I'm hoping it will go away eventually but it's been almost half a year and still there from time to time and no doctor has given me any input apart from it being a cold and 'should pass in a week or so' ...

Just putting this out there to see if anyone has any ideas about what this could be? or anyone who has experienced this before perhaps.

Thanks

alexd88 hello,
i would say that you need to see a specialist. vertigo is horrible. i've dealt with it since 1980. please don't wait to see a dr. there could be permanent damage being caused or it could be viral. precious49

Hi

Thanks for your reply. wat kind of specialist would you recommend? there is an ear clinic near by, I was thinking about going there, but just not sure about what the best place to go would be.

hi alexd88,
i would find the best otolaryngologist in your area. if you're not in a big city, i would go to the largest one that you can. i'm not sure about the ear clinic. it depends on how advanced they are. i pray that you will find the best dr. precious49

It sounds like an inner ear issue similar to glue ear - had you suffered with a heavy cold before hand.

The noises must drive you nuts but the vertigo is more of an issue. Definately one for the experts!! Good luck.

Thanks for the advice,

The noises are annoying, but vertigo is definantly the worst part. It seems to get better and worse though, if it's still here in a months time I'll book an appointment with a specialist.
