I am getting marine fishs and I know how to take care of everything else except the water. I want to know where do I get saltwater from? Do I mix salt and water? or get it from the ocean? Also if I used regular water would they die? because I remember I found a crayfish at this lake and I put it in my water bottle and she said that it was going to die because it needed salt water which didn't make sense because it wasn't like I found it in the ocean.

You should know how to create and maintain the marine fishes environment before the fish. Marine tanks must be set up just the water with the aquarium salt and cycled for up to 3 months before ever considering putting any fish in it. The necessary biological bacteria must grow and also the algae necessary. You will learn to test the ph, kh, gh, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels during this time. Because small changes can result in Big bad results in a quick way you must test often. One tablespoon worth of ammonia in a fresh water tank is like ten tablespoons worth in a marine tank. '' I don't know how much research you have done on the subject.. But freshwater keeping is not nearly as expensive or time consuming as marine tanks are. And that doesn't include the cost of the fishes. lol Go to a Marine aquarium place and talk with them and they will tell you all you need and what to do... to be successfull at marine aquaria.
