watching TV shows/listening to radio in your target language?

I think it does some, yes, but only if you have enough of a grasp of the grammar and vocabulary. Otherwise, it's a bunch of gibberish. I have found reading to be more helpful because it helps you to learn vocabulary as well as grammar possibly. You can look up the words individually and try to find out the meaning. You'll be more likely to remember them that way. (You still need some grammar knowledge to make sense of what is being said, though.) On television and movies, people are speaking too fast often and if they say a new word, it's not always possible to figure out what they mean from the context (unlike in conversation).

Yes, but only to a certain extent. Most languages spoken on t.v. tend to be spoken really fast, thus making it more difficult to learn.
