Watching“The Universe”on History Channel.They say we shouldn’t send Earth

Life2“Contaminate” other world. Why? OK, yeah… There is a HIGH likelihood of there being life on Saturn’s moons… Sending OUR life to possibly kill off THEIR life would be bad...

But we don’t think that there is life on Mars and we are planning on teraforming Mars in the future so why don’t we just start sending samples of stuff along with the rovers and just see what happens?

“Extremophiles” are life forms that can live in places we used to think that life could not live… why don’t we send some earth life that can live in Mars’s environment and just see if anything takes hold? Couldn’t we send life forms that may be able to start making greenhouse gasses or oxygen and just see if we can get something there NOW that MAY help us in the future?

It sounds pointless to drop off a hand full of bacteria but if that small handful takes hold NOW, who knows what the future may hold?

Why would it be a bad thing to “contaminate” other worlds in our solar system? I don’t understand why it would be a bad thing!

We are going to do what we want with Mars if life exists there or not so why not just start sending things and see what happens?
