WASTE! - from the Creator of Gnutella

http://www.nik.com.au/waste/

The guy who created Nullsoft WinAmp up to version 5.0 and ShoutCast and the original Gnutella code has released (May 2003) WASTE a SECURE chat and SECURE filesharing program!

Nullsoft WASTE
WASTE is a software product and protocol that enables secure distributed communication for small (on the order of 10-50 nodes) trusted groups of users.

WASTE is designed to enable small companies and small teams within larger companies to easily communicate and collaborate in a secure and efficient fashion, independent of physical network topology.

Lets hear some discussion on this. It seems like a good idea to reverse engineer this code and get it into the hands of open-source coders so SECURITY could be introduced into Gnutella clients. What do you think? Does anyone agree? Anyone Disagree?

Thanks for the link. I'll keep up on it from there.

However, I'm curious if you or anyone knows of any clients (or if Limewire) has or is planning to integrate the security available in WASTE to their own client releases?

If no one is... why not? Thanks.

No, because the WASTE concept does not work for large networks. It could only be used to create small closed communities inside the Gnutella network. IMO if you want a small closed community that outsiders can not eavesdrop on, you should use WASTE and not Gnutella.

That makes sense. WASTE For small private groups, and Gnutella for large public.

Hmmmm..... well I guess I'm still curious about one more thing. Security in general for Gnutella clients. Is it happening? If so, then which clients, on what time-frames, and what type of security is being added. If not, then why? Anyone have information or a thought on this?
