Was the writ of ownership created by a divine being? Or was it created by man?

Who or what drew the line dividing possession from ownership? Where and when? Was it created by God? Or created by man? And if the writ of ownership was created by man, is it immutable? What is ownership other than possession by writ of law?
If that writ was created by man and is sustained by man, can he not amend it according to his will? Or to better suit his purpose?
