A year or two ago, a group of users who regularly participated in the Comics and Animation category of Yahoo! Answers decided to call themselves regs. They would ask dozens of chat/game type questions. They would award each others questions with stars so that their questions would always end up at the top of the popular questions list, even though most of their questions had nothing to do with Comics or Animation. All the "Newbs" then wanted to become a reg, asking "How do I become a reg?" The answer they would get goes along the lines of, "Answer and ask as many questions as possible."
The flaw with the system is that there is a TOP CONTRIBUTOR badge, but there is no REG badge. "Reg" is a purely subjective term. You are a "Reg" if another user calls you a "Reg." Calling people out by name on Y!A is against the rules. Besides, why would anyone want to be just a REG when they can be a TOP CONTRIBUTOR.
Eventually, someone decided to put an end to this REG nonsense by reporting all their chatty/game/abusive questions. A few REGS got suspended because they appealed to their reported questions. They fervently believe their questions are legitamite when they never bothered to read the guidelines first. Instead of accepting their own wrongdoing or questioning where they went wrong, they blame it on TROLLS for reporting their questions. That is ugly!
