Was the Honda Prelude ever an Acura car?

I've always heard of the Honda Prelude. My parents had several before I was born. But, I was discussing the car with my boyfriend and he said the car originally was an Acura model and that Honda picked it up when Acura dropped it. I wasn't sure, since my parents had theirs in the mid-1980s. So I was just looking for a little clarification on this.

So if they had a 1986 Legend, they had one of the first Acuras ever? Sweet! :)
 
honda and acura are owned by the same company. but there never was an acura version of the prelude.
