was stopped driving partners car. her policy had lapsed.?

was stopped driving partners car her insurance had lapsed which i didn't know about. i was insured to drive her car under my policy but as her car wasn't insured it doesn't count. have to hand in documents to police station what is likely to happen to both of us.
