Was NASCAR Chase for the Nextel/Sprint Cup championship a bad idea?

I think it is, because the season should be decided for an entire season, not for 10 races. Jimmie Johnson would be making history this weekend, by becoming the first driver to win four championships in a row. If the old system was in place, Jimmie will likely get his second Cup title. They should go back to the old system, because one driver is taking advantage of this new system.

I totally agree with you, what is the point of 26 races if only the last 10 count. In the beginning drivers had to work really hard to win the championship, not wait until the last 10. NASCAR wanted the racing close, I don't see what if the only driver winning is a Hendrick all the time. What is the point of any of it.

I actually like The Chase and think it has the potential to make things more exciting for fans than the old setup. Sometimes, drivers had 300+ leads coming into Homestead and that's even more of a snoozer. If multiple drivers had been winning then people may have different opinions but unfortunately, it seems like The Chase is perfect for only Jimmie Johnson and then that's where you start to see its flaws. A driver can have an average season, make the chase, then bring it on in the last 10 races and win it all. A driver can have a great season, lead the whole way, have one bad weekend during the chase and lose it all. So it has its pros and cons, but everything has its ups and downs. I do feel that NASCAR needs to rethink its format though.
