My wife's parents left my wife a blank check, with my name written on it, for the purchase of a leaf blower for my birthday. My wife did not wish to cash this check since they ALSO gave me a separate $100 check for my birthday already. I had to go to the bank today and asked her where the check was to deposit, which she said was made out for $70, and she told me she threw it away. She never asked me if we should do this and her attitude is we "don't need the money." Her parents are retired and well off, and give presents like this to their other children all the time.
