Was it a bad idea to email my Father-in-law political talk?

He keeps sending me e-mails bashing Obama and I am a Obama supporter...I'm not too sure if he's aware of that but I just e-mailed him in response to a video he sent me and now I'm wondering if that was a terrible idea and I should just keep my mouth shut?
My response wasn't rude I just kind of layed out what I thought about the video.
