Was I Sunbleached??

Last year I fell asleep in the sun and I actually ended up getting a sunburn that turned into a nice tan. However the tan was blotchy as some parts of my skin seemed unaffected (the pale color it originally was). I did worry about this but seeing as it isnt good to fall asleep in the sun and there wasnt much i could do but stay out of the sun, i left it as is, hoping it would fade with time.

I was out in the sun today and did get somewhat of a tan and I can already see that those same pale blotches (same shape) are there still. It is like these parts wont get tan. Help? What is this and how do I fix it?

What parts? There is something called tinea versicolor that is a very subtle skin infection and it becomes visible when the areas don't tan. They are especially prominent in the crook of the elbow, the backs of the knees and around the neck. If they get bad, they look a little bit red and blotchy out of the sun but the lack of tan in those areas is really what made me notice them on my son.

See your doc. There are prescription creams you can use to clear it and if you use certain shampoos to wash your body, that can keep it under control. Turned out my doc knew all about it because he had it too. Nothing to do with how clean you area but the "ph" of your skin and that you are born with.
