nothingconstant - you mean like Volcker, who tightened the money supply in the early 1980s?

Yes, he knew what was coming and never warned America sufficiently. That was his main responsibility and he, like Bush, failed miserably.

Just out of curiosity, do you know the names of any other Fed Chairmen?__Volcker reigned in inflation. Hardly a "worst case". If it wasn't for him, this country wouldn't be where it is today. You should thank him for putting the pain to make inflation/stagflation right.I suppose in the same breath you'll blame Carter for Volcker's actions.

Why does this country blame Greenspan and give a 100% free pass to the democrats who meddled in the economy and caused this mess? Pushing Fannie Mae (56% of all mortgages) to increase credit to anyone and everyone was NOT Part of the problem? What planet are liberals on?Liberal Policies caused this mess, and Bush acted like a Liberal by continuing Clinton's policies of increased home ownership. Bottom line! Not Capitalism. Government meddling!

Close but no cigars Paulson is in the running for that award too, remember Greenspan bailed out Citibank too, they never learn to discipline banking institutions.

How about Charles S. Hamlin, the first Chairman (August 10, 1914) of the Fed ? From then on, all US dollar issued were backed by national debt, whose interest have to be recovered from tax revenue received from IRS. So the more US dollar printed by the Fed, the more treasury bonds the government have to issue, which requires more tax to be deducted from everyone in the future.
