Was Fred Rogers (Mr Rogers) a former marine sniper?

The rumor is not false. My father served with him. He became a Presbyterian minister after he received his Honorable Discharge. And he was certainly not the only legitimate war hero who chose that path after his wartime service.

Its says online that he fought in Vietnam and Korea. He always wore long sleeve shirts due to his military tattoos.

No, he was a minister.

According to his website,

"A false rumor claims that Fred Rogers was once a U.S. military sniper in the Vietnam War. The rumor appeared on the Internet in 1994 and re-emerged several times over the next ten years, most notably after his death in 2003.[44][45] However, Rogers never served in any military force. Beginning in 1963, Rogers developed the Mister Rogers program for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1966, he moved back to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the U.S. where he produced Mister Rogers' Neighborhood through the height of U.S. military involvement in Vietnam. Related rumors claim that Rogers had a number of military tattoos, but these rumors are also entirely false."

Nope never a Marine sniper Mr Rogers was a SEAL !! how else do you explain how he got all those sweaters ?

In the fall of 1967 Fred Rogers and a team of highly trained Seals Flew in to Cuba in a covert operation to get LBJ a box of the finest cigars . While there Rogers spotted a sweat shop . rescued all workers and as a reward was given a life time supply of sweaters

No.

He was never in any military unit and in fact during the Korean war was working as a puppeteer and during the Vietnam war was filming Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

Little hard to be a Marine Sniper when you're in front of a camera 5 days a week filming a TV show for kids.
