Was Abraham Lincoln gay?

I have heard rumors, but find it hard to believe.

Supposing he was, does it matter? In what way would it matter?
He suddenly drops from (arguably) one of the most best presidents to the worst president ever?

As for hanging out with a buddy: I know quite a few (very straight) friends who do the same. If one has a similar wife, one would understand why they do that. Sexual intercourse and preference makes someone gay. Not the company he keeps.
