Warts on the palm of my hands?

I am past middle age and all my life I have had as many as 40 warts on both of the palms of my hands. A dermatologist has told me there is nothing I can do to rectify this problem. I use my hands frequently for hours at a time and the warts sometimes crack, split open and catch different materials especially cloth. What can I do but wear bulky gloves all the time? This is sometimes a painful situation for hours at a time. Please hold the jokes,I have heard them all.
