warranty on a non-american phone?

My 5500 recently stopped working. I can not turn on the phone any longer. I can charge the phone, it detects that and charges normal but i'm unable to power on the phone. Its similar to the white screen of death on the n-gage but in this case it won't turn on. When i charge it up, i can still see part of theme where the battery icon is. So i figure everything in the phone is still good, Just cant turn it on maybe a bad button or something.

Anyways, i called nokia thru that 1-888 number and they told me to contact nokia europe or nokia asia because they can't service the phone. Now i'm in a jam. I should be getting my new housing tomorrow but its seems pointless now. Should i attempt to get it warrantied overseas? Anyone try that before?

I bought this on ebay thru x1387. in november. I dont know if that 1 year warranty applies to ebay auctions but i bought it new. I'm also considering sending it to one of the guys on our market place to see if they can do anything to it.

I dunno at this point, i was thinking about getting an N91 4gb in a joking sense last week but now i think it might be true

from what i heard from my friends that returned their cell fones to asia for warranty repairs, an invoice of your cell fone is needed. Since you bought it off from ebay and not from a retailer, im not sure if nokia will honor their warranty. and on top of that, you are using it oversea...

try contacting your ebay seller and ask him. Online sellers like mobilebee or importgsm have warranties from the original country of origin of the phone. If there's a problem, they will ship the phone back to that country's nokia service center to get it fixed.
Ask the seller if he has such an agreement as well. I might be wrong, but aren't x1387 and plemix.com the same?

Looks like you'll be paying for the phone's repairs. You could try contacting x1387 and ask him if there's some way by which he can send in your phone to nokia. If the phone does have warranty (seems unlikely, since the 7 day warranty mostly means its a gray market phone), he shouldn't have a problem sending it out, if you cover shipping costs.

i just emailed him exact what you posted hahaha.

I'm stuck in limbo right now. Even if i'm paying for the repairs, where do i take it to? I don't like the idea of sending my phone overseas to be repaired in the first place and to make it worst out of my pocket money. Just kinda gets me a little angry at the phone itself. Phone that is gear to take a little abuse here and there all of sudden doesn't turn the F on.

I think its the power button but i'm going to wait till tomorrow to see my housing and how that phone comes apart.

So i got a reply back from x1387. they told me the phone only had a 7 day warranty and i'm out of luck.. I guess it really a grey area phones. I guess thats the last new phone i buy from ebay.

But i'm still on a hunt for someone to repair it. I offered to pay out of warrnty repair to nokia usa and they told me no go because its an overseas phone. Kinda stuck going to a 3rd party now. Because nokia wants $100 to look at and about 35$ in shipping plus whatever parts are needed. I dont see anything physical wrong with the connections.

Anyone want to buy this from me? Comes with new case =P

Why don't you contact iunlock.com? If it happens to be software, you could have him flash it to get it working again. It's worth a shot, I suppose?
