Does anyone know what Nokia's policy is with regards to phones that are sold in the US, lets say like the Nokia N80 or N91, but not purchased through nokiausa.com? lets say i buy it via myworldphone or cellhut or some other company. if it breaks, am i covered with the same warranty as if i purchased it from nokiaUSA?
any help would be appreciated.

Check Darlas blog...she covered this subject pretty extensively If I remember correctly.

found the link!

cool. although darla's dilemma was that she had a handset that was never intended to make its way to the states. what i'm wondering is, what would happen should i get a phone that is intended for the US market (like the N73 or N80) but from online places other than nokiaUSA.

I think your still in the same bind because you didnt buy it directly from Nokia or a Service Provider. Unlocked/Unbranded phones always seem to be a crp shoot. I know a few years back though, moto had a batch of bad razrs that forced Cingular and other retailers to recall and halt distribution of the phone. That being said, even unlocked, unbranded phones were allowed to be swapped like for like so Nokia perhaps could take a lesson! At the time however, the razr was untouchable and moto didnt want anything to stop the razr machine with bad press from faulty units. I know my wife had the faulty "pink" batch and when hers went i said why bother! She hasnt had a moto since so I considered it a blessing.

.........although I still have a mint black rzr that sits in a drawer...shhhhh

I guess it would come down to your argument and speech skills when you get on the line with Nokia CSR, so don't lose hope!

I have called nokiausa in the past and they said they would service phones from abroad if they were supported in the USA. I have called and asked this twice in the past 2 months, so, I'm almost positive that they will. Take that for what it is worth - -

Supported in the USA means Sold in the USA....meaning...it must be an available branded phone like the 6682. Any phone with at least 1900mhz is a supported phone but they arent likely to service the N93 anytime soon. I know the N90 was sold by CompUSA for some time and people still had issues getting it serviced.

We will have to agree to disagree

...the N93 is sold directly by them (or it was), so I am sure they would support it. If they wouldn't support the N93, then they wouldn't support the N80, or any other phone they had for sale on their own website.

When I called a couple of months ago, I specifically asked if they would "support" a european N80 if I bought it in a retail box. The lady said yes, and then she tried to sell me an N80 telling me she would deduct $50 dollars off the final price if I was interested in buying it from nokiausa.

In my opinion (based on my experience), if it is on their support page (product support), nokia will try to service the phone or answer questions in relation to the device.

sorry...I misunderstood. If Nokiausa is selling the model directly it should be supported but most of the higher end s60's never make it there. I know the N80 is now available so your right, it should be covered but phones like the N95 will not, even if you pick it up off the street from say a NYC vendor. I think were on the same page here. It's still sad that I cant buy a Nokia 5500 off of ebay and get support for it because it's not sold on Nokiausa or here in the states.

Cool. I'll try giving nokiaUSA a call. if they're willing to budge on price (i.e. -$50) like previous poster said, then that totally makes up for the diff. the best i've seen is a Nokia N80 from tigerdirect for $479.

I would just get an N80ie from nokiausa for 499.99 with free shipping...just makes me feel better getting it directly from them

i'm stuck with a bad 5500. the power button lost a resistor or something in that lines, it works perfect but the on/off button doesn't work... I sent it off to evan @i-unlock for a flash thinking i got something similiar to my n-gage with the white screen of death but i was wrong...

phone got flashed and works great according to evan but i cant test it because lack of power button. He has machine to force power on. So i'm left with a brick. nokiausa told me to make phone call to nokiaeuro/ asia and talk to them. i looked it as $30 to talk to them and find out possibly "haha your out of luck, ship it here for $30 and we will just look at it and then charge you 100$ out of warranty and possiblye $30 for return shiiping" the looks of that its 190$ on the high side to have a working 5500. its just sitting here for now.
