Warmest April on record, climate agency reports

WASHINGTON – It was a hot time in the old world last month.

The planet's average temperature for April was 58.1 degrees Fahrenheit (14.5 Celsius), the hottest for any April on record, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Monday.

Indeed, the world's average temperature was the highest on record for the January-April period, according to NOAA's National Climatic Data Center.

For January-April, the average was 56.0 degrees (13.3 Celsius), the agency said.

Areas particularly warmer than average included Canada, Alaska, the eastern United States, Australia, South Asia, northern Africa and northern Russia.

Cooler-than-normal places included Mongolia, Argentina, far eastern Russia, the western contiguous United States and most of China.

Climate experts said the El Nino warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean weakened in April, as sea-surface temperature anomalies decreased.

The report noted that Arctic sea ice was below normal for the 11th consecutive April, covering an average of 5.7 million square miles (14.7 million square kilometers).

Antarctic sea ice extent in April was near average, just 0.3 percent below the 1979-2000 average.

Because I'm not the one making claims about the data and acting condescending towards people for not believing me after I didn't present the relevant information that's necessary.

I know the data, you may know the data...but you acted as if what you displayed was proof of something it wasn't.

Someone else want to step up to the plate for a 7th Circlejerk post exposure? I'm growing tired of doing it day after day.

I'm not hating. Just pointing out that if you're going to make a claim....provide all the evidence. We criticize people all the time on here that weather doesn't mean climate. You have to show a significant change to climate. A one year temperature recording as the hottest on record does not do that. Nor does mixed sea ice data.

Now if you showed a graph with a trend of warm April temperatures over the past say 50-100 years....you'd have something.

1 month being the warmest is. Follow Billy's lead and post trends, not zomg! this month is the warmest on record!!!!!!11 or zomg! We reached a record temp in Atlanta for today or Zomg! We had a record low in Austin today!

it's irony bro. The brainless righttards love to cite weather as climate, so when weather supports what is actually happening it's fun to rub their stupid faces in it.

You're not going to win this one. You don't win very many at all. But you're best bet is to just walk away from this thread.

.....or don't and I will as you get owned.
