wanting to join army, but have bad vision and hate glasses, what is boot like wearing...

...glasses? Im wanting to join the army as an intell officer but i have bad vision. Now im not blind, but i can't read road signs or anything. I have worn contacts for so long now and feel so uncomfortable wearing glasses and would hate to have to wear them during boot camp. The thought of having some delicate glassware on my face, and the distraction of the frames, and mud and crap getting on the glasses, makes me not want to go through it. I want to feel like a soldier not a Nerd while at boot camp. What are the glasses like nowadays and how hard is it to wear them during boot?, and are there any alternatives to the glasses? thx
