First, I had been taking Xanax since July 2003, medically needed and prescribed, along with Zoloft for deppression. I started takin Lortab 3 years ago, I didnt have any xanax(I was abusing them at that point) so I was offered lortab, from none other than my mom. Was hooked ever since, because I loved that motivational feeling it gave me, purly recreational. I decided to get off of them several times with no luck, because I caved about 2-3 days in because of the w/d's.
Finally, I went cold turkey, now Im going on day 12 of my home/self detox. Im not going to sugar coat this because these are 2 serious med's and highly addictive. I will say that I have started my Xanax's back, like I said I actually need those, but only take those as needed, instead of 3-4 at once.
Ok heres what I went through the first few days. The w/d are horrible, I will not lie,, I lived in the bathroom, to the point I was bleeding, terrible stomach cramps, leg cramps,, muscle aches and pains, weakness and I didnt eat for a week, nothing. The scarest thing was when I slipped into a seizure(Im thinking caused by the xanax's, as they work on your brain sensors) I felt it coming on, and of course my DH called an arabulance. Also please keep in mind my DH would feed my habit, only because he didnt want to see me go through the w/d's. He is now my biggest supporter, he keeps encouraging me that Im doing so well, when I have severe cravings. Anyway, I was strait up honest with the doctors about my addictions, and what was going on. After the eptileptic episode I had, everything seemed to have shut down. I could not walk alone, I didnt know where I was from time to time, mainly the disorintation of it. Worst of all, my 12 y/o son had to firsthand witness that. My blood was checked, my potassium was below 2 and that in itself is dangerous, since 3.5 is thought abnormal. I was given potassium pills to bring the levels up. Not eating played a factor in that as well. For a few days after that I was very weak.
So like I said, today is day 12, the w/d's are gone, no more cramps or sickness or anything, just major, major cravings, which Im trying so hard to fight,,but so far Im winning.:bouncing: Also a TV show called "celebrity Rehab on VH1 has helped me too, they are going through the same things, it helps to know, youre not alone!!!
Im not saying these things to discourage anyone from getting off these meRAB, but hopefully it will scare someone, to where they will not use these, unless of course they are needed, and not abused, I wouldnt recomend them at all, they are so addictive. There are other meRAB out there for pain that arent so addictive, they dont give you that feeling of euphoria, and work just as well for pain. If you take Xanax and dont need them, please GET HELP with those, they are extremely dangerous to detox yourself cold turkey I was lucky, I couldve died.
To ones that are taking these meRAB, I wanted to share this with you, first to let you know, that you ARE NOT alone, if you really want off of them, you CAN DO IT, gain that extra will power, look at your family, and think of what they would go through if you werent here. My son and my DH thought I was dying in front of thier eyes. YOU CAN DO IT. Research these meRAB, xan's have a half-life of about 2-3 hours I think, which is why they are so addictive, and Ive heard that they are harder or just as hard to get off of as cocain is. Lortab, Im not sure, if you need pain medications or nerve meRAB, then go to a doctor, otherwise youre going down a bad path, and its hard to back up and get on that road to normality again, but its possible. Im here for anyone who wants to talk, and im sure there are others here willing to talk as well. Also try to find a good supporter, you cant imagine how much that helps. Or come here.
Thank you for allowing me to share that with you all. By all means Im not cured, but I am proud and not proud to say that I am a recovering addict, and am looking forward to having a normal life again.
