linda - I'm sorry to hear you're in pain , It's a good thing that you have P.T coming to your home twice a week.. You had your 2 week mark yesterday , and today is one month for me - I think that i am doing okay for the 1 month mark.. I still have a lot of pain , esp. in my pelvic region ware they took the bone from..

Crazy the found 4 bone spurs in your back during surgery , at least they found them and hopefully they can treat you best as possible.. Miss talking with you and good luck with your recovery !! BILLY BOY

LInda -- Glad to hear back from you !! I also pray that your pain does not return , you do not deserve that.. What is neurontin any ways > never heard of that ? I was on Lyrica before my surgery and I did not like it , I put on weight while taking it Just take it E Z , one day at a time that what I tell myself every day LOL.......

About me , Well today is my one month mark from surgery {2.20} so i drank my first beer (BECKS) IN about a month and half - - VERY good indeed only one though.. My back is still very sore but my pelvis is VERY painfull , from the bone graft I'm sure.. I did'nt start P T yet going to se my doc. on 3/28 , but I'm walking at least 20 mins a day {hurts when i get home - feels like i just ran a marathon} My doc has me oxycodone 10/apap 10/650 , four a day ONLY - he wrote out a script of 60 for 2 weeks.. I'm trying to only take four a day but it's hard , my pain is constant but I don't want to run out of meRAB.. I see my PM doc in a week and I'm sure that he will not give me more than 60 pills for 2 weeks - If you do the math that a pill every 6 hours , thats not cutting it right now for me and i don't no what to do ? Besides my rarabling on here , things are okay I guess > Thank GOD for my wounerfull familly they are the best !!

I really hope you feel better Linda , and i do really miss chatten with ya.. like i said your a gentle soul and a good person , keep your head up high and take baby steps !!!
GOD BLESS YA dA D e V.

Hey Billy Boy I will try and remeraber to take it one day at a time but everyone tells me I don't have much patience. Neurontin also called Gabapentin (generic name) is used for treatment of seizures and management of nerve pain. I also gained weight from the Lyrica (but no swelling) besides causing the shakes. Now they say that Neurontin is the only thing left so since I am swelling so bad I guess I can't take it either. I have heard of another medicine called Topomax which is actually for migraines but it is also used for nerve pain, I think. But my doctor won't prescribe it. I will just take the one day at a time and pray the nerve pain doesn't come back.

I agree with you that your doctor sure doesn't give you many pills per day with the pain pills. So far I am not having any troubles with my doctor but I go see him next week and he may be completely different on what he will give me then. I am not much into beer drinking but I do like the "hard" liquor with Daiquri's (sp?). Right now I like the pain pills better. Talk to you later I should be in bed by now.

Gentle Hugs:cool:

Billy,
my concern is: why they don't keep your pain under control well enough? I think giving you such a restrictions with meRAB while you only one month post-op a tad harsh.
Who will be your PM DR? Are you happy with your surgeon, his bed side manners (:-)?
Talk to your Dr , don't hesitate to tell him what pail levels you get during the day, when you seat or move. For how many hours your meRAB are working... this is important for him to know.
More prepared you go for your app. better results will be.
Good luck to you and take it easy, please!!!

Happy Easter to you and your family, Billy.

Hope your pain is starting to abate and that you can walk more comfortably.

MM--- Hello thare , how ya been ? I have a question for you > My P.M doctor is giving me scripts of oxycodone/apap 10/650 , which seems to be working somewhat.. The thing is , he's writing out scripts of 60 pills for 2 weeks - thats a pill every 6 hours .. I do not think or no if thats enough , after 3 to 4 hours after taking one pill i am in pain again !!

I was woundering what your doctor gave you after surgery ? I'm still in a good amount of pain and just wanted to no what other people are on after surgery..

Hope you are having GOOD DAY!!!!!!!! Billy

MOLDOVA --- "WE ARE HERE FOR YOU MAN" LOL... That was just funny , made me laugh !!
I really don't no how well i am doing , but today is 1 month since surgery and i think i have one foot in front of the other !!!

I am still in a great deal of pain , back has been very achie lately - but i will deal with it.. Hope all is well on your end and i miss chating with every one , I will try to make more of an effort to chat with you all -- You guys make me feel better every time i talk with ya all.. C -yA.. DEV

Hey buddy
Been thinking of you and I sure hope that pain is more under control!! I agree with Moldova....1 month post op and they are rationing your pain meRAB??? That's absurd! You had a BIG surgery boyfriend! You may want to keep a pain diary to take with you to the PM. I did this for a visit and it was so helpful, it's hard to remeraber everything when you are in the exam room and they are rushing you along! Rate your pain on a scale from 1-10 with 10 being that you need to be rushed to the ER in excrutiating pain. Rate your pain before and after you take your meRAB and how long the meRAB work before you are in pain again. Keep track of your activity and what makes you hurt more and what makes you feel a little better. Hopefully this will help with your next visit. Feel better Billy and I hope you have a better week-end. Hang in there and we are here for you!

Deb

Hey Billy Boy I was wondering where you were keeping yourself. I have missed you. It is 2 weeks today for my last surgery they put in 2 roRAB and 4 screws. I was in so much nerve pain when I came home from the hospital and it ended up that when the surgeon opened me up they found 4 spurs that they didn't know about and he said they were bright red because they had been pinched for so long. He said he expects a lot of major nerve pain. They did start me on Neurontin last week and it is helping the pain but now I am having major swelling in feet and ankles and I feel whole body because I have gained 9 lbs in one week and it isn't because I am eating too much. I also had another infection in my incision like I had in my stomach when they did the ALIF. It was really bad last weekend but better now. They have home health coming out twice a week for physical therapy and also they want me to get a brace but haven't yet. I too am having so much pain but I know we will get better.

My prayers are out there for you Billy and let me know how things are going for you.

Gentle Hugs:angel::angel::angel:

I have been walking as much as possible , but my hip has been hurting me big time.. The bone they took from my pelvis for the gaft is acting up , hurts all the time lately ARRRRRR..

Like i said i miss you MARLOSMOM , you and your kind worRAB + wisdom.. I will keep in touch okay , GOD BLESS BILLY..........

Hey Billy!
I just posted to you over on the other thread, the update from Deb. I hope you're feeling a bit better today. Take it a day at a time. I'm glad you're hanging out with family so you don't have to worry about the details of daily life.

Hope you're just relaxing and watching movies and eating mom's home cooking!

Keep in touch,
Emily

Hi Billy ~

I just saw your post. Sorry my reply is a bit tardy!! Your dosage of oxycodone is a little lower than what I was given...and you had lots more surgery than I did, so I would imagine you have more pain. :(

I was given oxycodone 20 and I took it 3 x day. I did not have the oxycodone apap...but the first nuraber is the amount of oxycodone...and you're getting 10 mg per dosage. Then I had hydroco-apap for break-through pain...5-500 and I could take one or two every 6 hours. At the beginning I took the maximum amount of meRAB. that the doc prescribed.

It doesn't sound like you're on enough, esp. if you're still in pain!! Call the doc and let him know!!

How are you doing otherwise? Are you able to get your walks in?

I've been really stiff this week -- hurts to change position in bed, etc. And it just keeps snowing here. Every week we get another 7-10 inches!!! This is the worst winter I can remeraber!!

Take good care, Billy,

Talk to you soon!!

xx M:cool:M

That's a great idea, Deb. But I'll add that you need to be careful not to say that you're always at a 10. They won't take you seriously.

Are you feeling any better today? Hey, be careful with the beer. Mixing alcohol and pain meRAB can mess you up. If you like it for the taste rather than the buzz, get some O'Douls. :D

Take care,
Emily

Oh Billy Boy:wave: I have missed our talks also and I hope you get to feeling better soon. Like Emily said just sit back watch some movies and enjoy Mom's cooking.

Physical Therapy came by today and spent about an hour with me and she said my doctor doesn't really want them to do much with me except walk. She said she didn't want me to think I wasn't getting my money's worth which I wasn't because my mind is so screwed up I don't think I am keeping anything straight. She did have the nurse come back out later because my feet and ankles are really swollen and the blood pressure is up a little so the nurse called the doctor's office and they have decided it is the Neurontin so the doctor told me to get off the Neurontin. She asked if we could just lower the amount or raise my diuretic and they said no and since I can't take Lyrica then there isn't anything else for me to take. I am praying the pain doesn't come back like it was before. I asked if I should slowly come off the Neurontin and she said "Oh, that is right!" If I hadn't asked I am sure I would have had something go wrong. I guess if the nerve pain comes back then I will have to decide which one is the worse but my feet are so swollen so bad that it hurts to walk.

Well so much for me and tell me about you. Is your pain getting any better? I am also on the Percocet or Oxycodone/Apap 10 mg/325 mg tablets-1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. I has also helped me a lot but doesn't stay with me. I go back to the doctor for my followup on Thursday next week. Are you doing any kind of physical therapy? I want to go outside and walk so bad but she told me today that our driveway is not level enough and it is gravel so that wouldn't be safe. I wish I had the money to have it black toped. Well got to go for now so take care and don't over do.

Gently Hugs
Linda:wave:

Billy,
nice to hear from you. I was thinking of you and your recovery.
I am glad you are doing better and better every day, this means you have a good chance to recover nice and fast.

I am almost 3 month after my second fusion and still in a lot of pain: back and legs. Nerves pain is still pretty bad.
I don't think i am doing as well as I would like to at this point but everybody recovers on their own pace and hopefully one day I will get better too.

Keep up with a good work and come here to update us on your recovery.
WE are here for you, man!:)

Billy, what does the dosage on the bottle say? Sometimes, they put in how many days worth they consider the prescription to be, but that doesn't mean you can't get more sooner. As long as you don't go over the dosage printed on the bottle, you should be okay. If they balk at refilling it, tell them exactly how much you've taken each day. You can keep a log of the times you take it and how much. You may be able to stop your night time dose by now, if you're still waking up during the night to take it. I actually set my alarm in the beginning to take a dose in the middle of the night so I wouldn't be in so much pain when I woke up. After a few weeks or a month, I was able to stop doing that. I just made sure I took some right before bed and as soon as I woke up.

If you're uncertain, you can always call and talk to the nurse. Tell her what the dosage on the bottle is and that if you take that much, you'll run out. Ask her if there's going to be any problem getting a refill before the 2 weeks if you need it.

Hope you're hanging in there! Are you able to do much walking?

 Emily

Hi Billy ~

I was wondering why we hadn't been hearing from you! You were posting so often before surgery, and then a bit after surgery, and then you just kind of vanished for awhile. I missed hearing from you.

Sorry you're still in so much pain, but you did end up having a really big surgery. My little one level PLIF can't old a candle to what you've gone through.

Glad you can be with family. The weather is getting nicer and hopefully you'll be feeling better so you can walk outside and actually enjoy it.

I managed to fall on ice the other day, in my own drive-way. I was scared, but I guess nothing happened with my fusion.

Take care of yourself and post when you can!!

xx M:cool:M
