hey guys, not sure if this is the proper place for this question, but I'm hoping someone who has been through this can provide some guidance.

I've been on various opiates for about 2 years. Started with vicodin and more recently norco to reduce the amount of apap i'm taking. I have been taking increasing dosages and after months of stressing out about running out prior to my refill dates i've decided to go clean.

anyways, i stopped taking the norco 2 days ago but i've been taking codeine to deal with my neck pain. Is this counterproductive and weakening my progress? Or is this is a decent 'tapering' method?

I'm not sure what to expect with the w/d, but I have been extremely groggy and tired, hot/cold, and experiencing stomach pains. All in all it hasnt been as bad as I've expected, but I guess I'm just looking for some insights and advice.

Thanks in advance.

I have a similar question...

I've been taking 50-80 mg of hydro (norco 10/325) for at least a year. I stopped taking the norco 2 days ago but have been taking some codeine for my pain in the mean time. I would like to stop taking everything. Is the codeine strengthening my addiction or is a decent tapering method? I've been extremely tired and groggy since stopping the norco but havent experienced what i would call serious w/d symptoms. I've ached, been hot and cold, and been extremely tired, but nothing I cant get through. What should I do and what should I expect next?

Hello

Welcome to the board. Good to see you here.

In all honesty, I believe taking the codeine is counterproductive. You may get off the norco, but will in all probability end up stuck on the codeine. Codeine is tough to come off of as well. The path I chose with opiates was to simply taper from what I was on and to do it slowly and steadily. I came off Oxycodone by lowering the dosage each week or ten days by about 10%. TowarRAB the end of the taper, I not only broke my pills, but often had to cruch them in order to measure a reduced dose. While there will be symptoms of withdrawal, it was not so severe that it was impossible. I kept on tapering until I was on about a 1/16th of a tab and then just stopped.

I don't believe switching from one addictive drug to another will do anything but prolong what must be donew eventually. However, you must choose the path that is right for you.

Whatever you decide, all best wishes
