I bought steaks at the other place. We had trouble cutting through

family joke.
I travel all over this as well as NY state, PA and CT looking for high
quality, sustainable foodstuffs. I certainly admit that I have led
myself astray at times by using online references such as the link
above.
I used a similar service to get a CSA subscription last year. The
deliveries stopped early in the season, we were promised refunds and
suddenly all emails bounced and the phone number was disconnected. I
got about $25 worth of veggies for $600.
These are places that have reps online, but I had no way of personally
verifying them.
Some day I'll tell you about the moldy butter or the blackberries that
were perfect on the top layer and gooey, fuzzy mush below. There was
the mildew-tasting shoe fly pie from the Amish road stand.
My sister in Michigan has much, much better luck than I, but she knows
her farmer-suppliers personally.
I have gotten wonderful goods at some places, though.
I must also say that I have found highly reputable farmers in this
state, too, but I no longer buy at these places without personal
references from those I trust,. I wind up feeling like I've been
hammered my a Nigerian scam most of the time and it isn't because I
have not been able to really discern anything from the physical exam
of the foods.
