No sleep what-so-ever for about 3 weeks! anywho i'm just glad i'm done with it! keep the faith people. YOU CAN GET CLEAN!

Hello Keith! Welcome to the group. I cannot speak of Methadone specifically, but I can talk about opiates. The recommend method of getting of most drugs it to taper. There is a good Sample Home Detox plan mentioned in the perma-links that has some great advice to help you prepare. We mostly recommend tapering down 10-20% a week or every few days if your body can tolerate it. You might be able to taper with larger doses when you first start off, but near the end you will want to taper more slowly (i.e., smaller doses and longer hold time). Many people also take the suboxone route and especially with stronger meRAB like Methadone, this may be something to consider. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about it, even if you are obtaining the drug through non-pharmaceutical means. Doctors are suppose to help and not criticize or judge their patients. A good physician will recommend you to a specialist if they do not have the proper experience in a particular field. Being educated about the process will help you make knowledgeable decision during your detox.

We're are here to help you along the way and answer questions that you may have. This group helped me with my detox process and there are some very knowledgeable people here to help you. Good Luck!!!

Good job Keith! It's a struggle to get where you're at, but if it were easy, we'd all be doing it. I still say that withdrawals are to be remerabered so we don't do it again. You'll need support during the next few months to stay clean. Cravings will come and go and you have to remeraber the withdrawals when they do hit. After 4 months, my cravings went away, but others have had cravings hit them 2 years after they have been clean. When they do hit the best thing to do is to get busy doing something, anything to get you mind off of them. Look for support where you can. We're always here to help out. Way to go! You're an inspiration to many of us.

hi mate, yep i've dropped from 75mg to 30mg this year, the anxiety/confussion and brain fog was caused by constipation and dehydration, its only after I found this out that i was well enough and clear enough (in my brain) to want to reduce methadone, so good look mate but go to chemist and ask for something from them, try something strong and then reduce dose, u need to drink more beacuse of methadone anyway and more again because of 'crap medicine', and you'll do fine. good luck dude!!!!!!!!

hi mate, yep i've dropped from 75mg to 30mg this year, the anxiety/confussion and brain fog i found was caused be the constipation that the methadone indirectly caused, this can cause a build-up of toxins, I get a lot of intercranial pressure, especially when i eat proteins of any sort, you may notice it gets worse about 1/2 hour after eating, try some lactalose or movalat or other products to help you go more regarly and cut down the proteins, if the temperature outside is dropping try wearing a hat it for me helps with the pains in the veins in the head, works for me....:wave:

Hello Keith I am currently taking methadone I am going to an outpatient clinic to help me get off of opiates. I was taking about 30 to 40 7.5 or 10 mg loritabs every day. It got to the point where there was no more buzz I was just taking it to keep from being sick. I started going to the clinic and I now have my life back, I have been there for 1 1/2 years. I am now ready to detox off of the methadone, my counselor recommenRAB that you go down 1mg a week until you are done. I take liquid so taking pills I am not sure how you could do that. Do you have a methadone clinic near where you live that you could go to to help you? WE have patients that drive 2 hours to my methadone clinic. Well good luck hope that everything works out for you.

but you done it,so well done, so it was a unconventional way do to it (ie not via a drug centre, but at least your not on the drug user database there,(but rather that than dead though)),
don't let your mind convince you that you have done that well you can treat yourself to a bit of gear (opiates), as you know it reprogrammes your brain, at first your brain convinces you its alright(you deserve it, its a treat, just this once, or as long as i only have it once a blue moon, or as long as i get it for free, all these WILL pull you back, you might not get another chance, i've lost 6 frienRAB, not all were I.V users either,
so enjoy your life back(it ill take upto 6 month to get proper normal) and hate the gear, you've got to before it takes more than your living away.
good luck (none of it is down to luck though, its down to you), if you use its lucky if you make it...

To get off the rest of your methadone you need to slowly go down I would say if you are taking 20 mg a day go down to 15 mg for a month then lower 5 mg when you get down to 5 mg split that in half for 15 day to a month then see where you are at. Methadone withdrawls can be ruthless if you don't do it right talk to whomever is perscribing the pills to you as well they should know best on how to get off of them good luck!

Dear Keith11;

I was once on 220mg of Methadone per day through a clinic. I never wanted to go up so high, but they kept insisting that I needed to be on 220mg a day (they told me that most female patients at my height and weight which is 5'10" and 165lbs benefitted more if we were on over 200mg per day, and it was about 300mg a day for men over 6' tall and over 200lbs). I wasn't arguing until my legs started swelling up from being on too much. I was also having trouble driving home after being dosed. I would nod off in the car and be useless most of the day until I got used to the new dose. I got insurance and a new doctor that was willing to treat my chronic pain with methadone. I told her that I was at this clinic. She told me to taper down off of the clinic and she'd write prescriptions for me. I told my counselor and they started tapering me by 5mg per week. I thought that was too slow, so I augmented it by skipping 2 days a week. All-in-all it took me about 5 months to go from 220mg per day to 60mg per day (60mg per day is all that my doctor would prescribe for me). I don't blame her, it was plenty for me! Although I suffrered a bit of w/drawal I came through in one piece. It went by fast! Now I'm up to 90mg per day because my pain condition has become worse. So I don't suggest rushing your detox, but remeraber that Methadonestays in your body for about 24 hours or so, so its OK to skip one dose. Good luck and I hope you can do it well.

Sincerely;

JAZ
