Spoiler Warning!

I currently catching up on all the Wallanders on my DVD recorder and have just sat through about 90mins of Season 1 Episode 6 (Mastermind) only to find that my recording finished early.:o

I got up to the point where Linda and Martinsson's daughter had just been saved from being hanged. Linda had just peeled back the bandages on her eyes and then... that's where the recording finished!

I've spent some time searching the web but can't find anything. Is there anybody here who can provide a brief summary of how it finishes? I would really appreciate it.:)

I think I still have it recorded but from memory she has just escaped down a dark corridor when the bandages come off and she is just focusing when she is grabbed again by the villain.

Kurt who has been searching for her arrives with a gun and even though I think the villain has a knife to Linda, Kurt manages to shoot him without harming her.

If any of that is incorrect, I shall post again shortly when I have watched it again

I think that episode(Mastermind) is slightly longer than the usual Wallander episodes. I think it is 1 hour and 40 minutes as opposed to 1 hour and 30 minutes of normal Wallander episodes.

Great episode though. One of the first season's best in my opinion. Sorry that your enjoyment of it was spoiled with the timing of it!

stripedcat - you are correct. If you check imdb, the run time of Mastermind is listed at 102 minutes whereas that for The Joker (Saturday's episode) is listed at 88 minutes. I don't remember any problems with the programmes starting late (but that does not mean there were not any, just that I don't remember any) so perhaps it was the longer episode that caused the problem. I know 9:00 to 10:30 is kind of fixed in my head for Wallander but I watch them live, or on iplayer if I miss anything, so the end time is not something I worry about.

Considering that is around half of what Sky receives in income I think that the BBC does pretty well with it in comparison.

Would I swap the BBC for half of Sky's output? Well let me think about that for a millisecond.

From the previous posts it seems that this was a problem with way the series link function of the recorder operates, rather than with the BBC.

Thanks guys, that explains why I missed the end. And I also agree with the comment on how good it is. It's the best episode I've watched to date which is why I'm so keen undersrtand how it ended.

And thank you yosebite and I appreciate it that your going to look though the end again. I'm assuming that Martinsson's daughter survived but one of the bits I don't understand is who was the second victim (the girl that was beheaded).

Yes. Martinsson's daughter survived.
Both she and Linda were rescued. The perpetrator was going after the daughters of those involved in putting him in jail because he had lost his daughter while he was in jail (though Wallander tried to convince him that his daughter was stilll alive in order to effect the rescue).
The first woman killled (hung up in her flat and drained of blood...) was the daughter of a senior officer who was involved in the case along with Martinsson and Wallander. it was her blood that was sprayed around Martinsson'd daughter's bedroom when she was kidnapped. The original "head" found in the river was that of a shop dummy/mannequin but I can't remember any more than that (at the moment, it may come to me later!).

Many thanks chuzhuchiche:). The only remaining mystery (for me) is who was the second victim. You're right, at the beginning of the programme a manikin's head is found but nearer the end, a real head is found and the headless body is in the same room that Martinsson's daughter was being held.
