Wake/Unlock malfuntion

I've observed some disturbing behavior on my HTC Hero/1.56

The screen lock becomes unlocked if the menu button is pressed twice the phone unlocks and is open for use? Why can't the phone function as the onscreen prompts indicate. Once th ephone is woken up one needs to drag the digital clock bar downward, if it doesn't work like this why bother with onscreen directions?

It would be GREAT if there was just one way to unlock the phone (something programmed), nothing that could be accidentally done by continued button press. How about this for a logic function "Ignore buttons that pressed/held longer than 7 seconds; disregarded the combo press accidental/non-human. Would be a GREAT way to save on battery; stinks when I pull the phone from my pocket and find it unlocked and screen light on FULL.

Sounds like a SenseUI bug to me (assuming you're running SenseUI on your Hero).

On standard Android 1.6 here, it doesn't matter how many times I press the Menu button, I'm always dropped onto the pattern lock. If pattern lock is disabled, then pressing menu twice shows me the home screen (or whatever screen I'd left it on previously). You certainly don't have to drag the notification bar down to unlock it.
