Waiting for my financial aid letter, but I didn't file taxes last year, so I was

wondering....? Alright....I'm 23, single mom, decided to go back to school. My award letter is in the mail. I only made around 500 dollars on paper last year, so my EFC was 0. They didn't ask for my taxes or anything just how much I made. My friend said they randomly ask people to prove how much they make. So, they may or may not have me prove I only made that much. I'm waiting for an award letter, expecting that I'm eligible for the Pell grant and loans. What do you think is going to happen?
You can track the status of your financial aid on the school's website, it will say if its in review or if they sent you a letter and its on the way.

If you are very low income they may ask you to verify your income. They do that to me almost every year. Just show them old check stubs and they will be satisfied. I would also just check that you aren't going to file this year and that will be ok too. If you are under 24 you can say you are a dependent and use your parents income tax and if they are low income you can stil lhave proof and be eligible for financial aid. By the looks of it you will be eligible but first they may ask you to verify the unusually low income. They will want to know how did you support yourself off of 500 dollars? Did your parents, spouse, help you?? You need to come up with how you survived...Did you get welfare? or Social security? Other wise even if you get Welfare or Soc Sec you shoul d still be fine.
