W-Sitting and Hip Problems

Anyone out there a "W" sitter as a child and have hip or knee problems as an adult?

Hi there. I've been having some hip problems for the last year with no injury involved. As I was doing some internet research, I came across an article about w-sitting causing hip problems. I understand w-sitting can cause/is a symptom of hyperflexibility which I have. Most of the information I've been able to find has referenced children. I'm curious to know if the chronic w-sitting I did as a child for so many years is now catching up with me through my adult hip pain.

I'm also wondering if there is any connection to w-sitting and being a preemie.

Any thoughts?

W-sitting is when a person is sitting on their butt with the feet bent back to the sides in a "v" position The feet are back by the hips. With both legs tucked back on the sides of the body, it looks like a W. Kind of like ^-^ if you when you are sitting.

I don't know that I've ever known anyone who sat that way regularly...more like jsut accidentally every now and then. However, sitting that way all the time can't be good for the knees, hips, ankles, etc.

My internet research on w-sitting mostly comes up with information on children with disabilities who sit this way and how they are discouraged from doing so because it can cause problems.

I sat this way through elementary school. I haven't made a habit of it as an adult although I can still sit this way. I'm curious though to see if there might be a connection between this bad habit as a child and problems as an adult.
