Hello! I had Nextel for about 6 years but now I do not have a phone at all. (company did away with nextel accts) I had the i860 and it was ok.

Features that I NEED: internet, email, camera and text messaging

I have always shopped for Nextel, so I am clueless to everything else out there. Before I spend the money for the new 930 (is it worth it?), I thought I would try to post here to get some ideas from the more experienced cell users.

I do not have a contract anywhere, so this would be brand spankin new.
Which company would be best for the features I need? Which phone? ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, I live in North Orange County, Ca if that matters with the quality if reception.

If you can afford it, get a PalmOne Treo 650 from Sprint or Cingular. They cover your feature requirements. I'd also direct you to a Blackberry, but given their current legal troubles over e-mail patents I wouldn't jump to them yet.

Sometime this quarter Verizon is going to carry the Motorola Q. I don't know what they will cost, but they look hot! Verizon also carries the Treo 700w.

You may want to do some research youself at http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/finder.php. You will find plenty of phones that will meet your needs.

O.C. is about as urban as it gets. You'll have good coverage just about everywhere except over the mountains and deep inside buildings.

You can port from Nextel to Sprint, and your history with Nextel will remain intact.
This should qualify you for some great discounts (10% off MRC for 2 years and a new phone ($150 instant rebate)), with a 2 yr contract. Possibly Vision, 7pm N&W, mobile to mobile discounted as well.
Phone CS and discuss it, nothing to lose
