VX-8300 vs SCH-U540 vs VX-9400 vs enV Orange

I have the LG VX-9400 now but am pondering exchanging it for another phone. The TV on it is getting dull, no good programming. And the small keypad/new placement for navigation controls is annoying at times.

I am deciding between the LG VX-8300, Samsung SCH-U540, and the LG enV VX-9900, most likely the Orange one due to its support for 4GB MicroSD, preloaded games, and shortcut key. Went to look at them in the store today.

The LG VX-8300's front screen has a slight flicker I assume is from its backlight. I noticed this on both of the phones there. Also the camera, 1.3 Megapixel, looked really pixelated even on the highest setting. I also like the speakers on either side, and music player controls that you have to push in. This is also the form factor and layout I am most used to, seeing as my old phone was a LG VX-4500 that I have had since September of 2004.

The Samsung SCH-U540, didnt take a good look at yet, will do so soon. The front controls might take some getting used to being touch sensitive. Didn't compare the camera on it to the others yet.

The LG VX-9400 is okay. I think the number keys are kind of small for me, and the navigation controls being below the keypad might take some getting used to. Although it does seem to have a better camera than the VX-8300 even though they both are still 1.3 Megapixels.

I like the fact that the LG enV VX-9900 has a QWERTY keyboard. Looks like that will take some getting used to also, but I assume not as much as the LG VX-9400. Also the camera, even though it is 2 Megapixels seemed to be slightly worse than the VX-9400's camera.

Could it be that the flicker on the front screen of the 8300 is because of an older hardware revision or the fact that it is a model phone? And could that be the reason behind its pixelated photographs? I think I am going to send some pics taken with these phones in the store to myself, my email, and check them on the PC to compare.

I did the same thing that you are contemplating.

I had the VX-9400 and it was unique in it's own right, yet the TV feature just felt too under developed at the time.

I went with the enV personally and believe me when I, a 6'7'' guy, say that keyboard is not nearly as hard to get used to as people suggest. Within ten minutes of purchase I was rambling off texts like a pro.

Bias'd though it is, I stand by the enV as the prime choice.
