VW to buy Ducati?

VW has always had reliability issues and so has Audi. Anyone remember the Audi's sudden-surge issues?

Ducati suffered from the reliability and high-cost of ownership issues but those seem to have been addressed.

Fiat owns Ferrari so it might make a better image fit if Fiat got Ducati.

VW taking MV would be interesting but I have to wonder if BMW might step in. BMW has embraced the sport bike market with the 1000RR, dirt market with Husqvuarna and is looking to attract a larger, younger bike riding audience. Picking up MV and moving the 1000RR over might be a nice fit?

BMW has to be smarter than that, Cagiva used to own Husqvarna and MV a couple years ago and neither complimented eachother... that would definately be a step backwards

Well, Cagiva is no BMW. I am sure Cagiva has a larger presence in Europe but they don't have the global reach, brand identity/loyalty, deep pockets and engineering prowess that is associated with BMW.

Its no secret that BMW is wanting to attract a younger and more diverse rider following for their bikes. The 1000RR and K13S/GT are shining examples of this desire. Plus, the addition of Husky shows us that BMW is willing to grow through acquisition.

MV is primarily a sport bike bike company with the F4 and Brutale. BMW is not. As such, I could see MV being a nice addition to BMW that would expand their offerings and not cause too much in the way of cannabalized sales.

Depending on how desparate HD is for cash, BMW could get MV on the cheap and it would give them a brand and identity for their sporting efforts. In the end, it may not happen but if it did, I would not be suprised.
