VW Beetle Watch

About 15 years ago my mates and I noticed there is always a Volkswagen Beetle somewhere in the background of EVERY present day set movie. Okay, so as the years have gone by this has become less and less of a case, but watch any 1995 movie and earlier (up to about 1975) and you are very likely to see a Beetle somewhere.

Any idea why this is ? Even the most odd of movies seem to have them in it.
