I get 2 cards or 70 mins out of the batteries. about 35 mins for 2 gig on the Go Pro. if you leave them on for the whole time.
If you read the structions again.. the strongly recommend lithium if it's really really cold..

This is where batteries would normally fail though.

Is it really really cold??

Oh if you're using rechargeables.. get a really REALLY good high power quick charger.. because you're 'deep cycling' the batteries and they need a good kick along to help the charging get started..

I did the firmware update on my Go-Pro and using a 16G SDHC card I got nearly two full hours of continuous use before the camera shut off with dead batteries. Funny thing was I tested the batteries after pulling them out of the camera and they still showed 1.6-1.7 volts, the AAA lithium batteries I used have a starting voltage of 1.9 volts. Evidently like Rodericb said the Go-Pro cameras are very sensitive to mAh.

If you read the firmware update it says that it'll shut off at 4g then you have to push the shutter button again and it'll run until it fills the card, unfortunatly the batteries die before then. I pulled the dead batteries and tried new ones, even alkaline, and they worked fine. But you're right, in retrospect a 4g card is plenty.
