Hi, my dad's Ford Taurus reads "Voltage" on the dash. A couple minutes later, the car stopped and now my dad claims it's the Resistor or something that's messed up on the battery.

What exactly is up with our car...?

Fords will do that when there's no charge from the alternator- they quit on you pretty fast too. A fuse blows to the alternator, ya walkin', an accessory belt breaks, same thing,

He may be referring to a ballast resistor, but that wouldn't affect charging or the battery except you'd keep starting the car and it would die as soon as you let go of the key, and you'd run the battery down trying so many times. Fix that fuse, make sure the alternator is charging the battery and make sure the belt that drives the alternator is tight enough and isn't missing altogether. If you don't find the alternator fuse ( it might be a 5 amp ) in the regular fuse box, search way under the dash where the $100 and hour guy will go at the dealer to fix it- and probably sell you a new alternator too.

If it says voltage it's telling you that either the battery or alternator isn't giving out the proper voltage and more then likely it's the alternator gone bad.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way some alternators have the voltage regulator built inside of them and on others it's external and more then likely it's the voltage regulating circuit that has gone bad on it , so call around to the alternator shops or dealership and ask them where is the voltage regulator located , but note that even a blown fuse can cause such a problem too.
