VoIP on Nokia E-Series E61/E61i

Hi All,

I just want to start this convesation to see who else has tried VoIP services on their E-Series Nokia E61/E61i.

I have tried TruPhone, works great but only free till June 30

Fring is great but voice quality is not good. This is good for chating, but recently the have added SIP service

Which gives you even more

SIP is one protocol of VoIP

You got IAX2 and H323 also for VoIP, don't ask me what's the diff cause they aren't gonne work on your nokia.


I use a small national VoIP reseller cause I got a local VoIP phone number.

However, I don't use it for my E61. I use it for voicemail and I can dial my VoIP number and it will recognize my cellphone's caller ID. Then I get instant access to dial through for long distance.

And I got unlimited incoming on my cellphone plan, so once I dial into my VoIP account, and dial a long distance number, the VoIP server hang up on me, then calls me back and connects me to the long distance number.
 
Yes, EDGE is too slow bandwidth and also the delay is around 1.2 second for EDGE. So you'd feel like you're speaking to someone on Mars. I tried when I used to have unlimited data with the E61. It was horrible, just horrible.

HSDPA is adequate.

There are no Nokia with North American HSDPA, I know what you were thinking.
 
I have been using SIP on the E61 for a year now and it has been great. Wherever I go, if wifi is available, I am able to make SIP calls. It saves me a lot of money paying roaming charge and high international tarifs. Some of the good SIP service providers are SIPGATE, SIPPHONE...etc The beauty about the SIP client in the E series phones is that it is integrated so nicely with the contact list, call waiting with standard GSM calls...I cannot stress how good the voice quality is (echo cancellation is there too).
 
So far only thing that is compltly free for usa, uk, canada, and some other eu countires is truphone.

i will try some of these other svcs

which one is reliable & cheap?
 
Which one is better Sipgate or sipphone? I'm wondering if I should try one of these??? Truphone crashed my E61i for some reason.
 
Try reloading Truphone again, it works flawlessly for me since loading it on, just got off a call to Malaysia...again same results, flawless

Gonna test it in a couple of days when i'm on the west coast.
 
I've only used it off my "Home" network using the wizard "TRUWIZ" which should be installed in the "installation" folder...i will be using it on the "Tavel" network using the wizard at each location from their "included" wireless network at each hotel.


these are the steps i've taken and will repeated for "travel" (did you see the tutorial on Youtube?)

after downloading you should have the wizard in your "installations" folder...

I have been uisng it too, I hope towards the end of free period if Truphone just charge something reasonable per year, that will be fine with me
