vodafone give misleading contract downgrade infos?

I took out a vodafone contract online for an iphone.
I then recieved it and canceled it as part of 7 day cancelation
sim blocked as of then it was unopen
changed my mind so same phone i never sent back so i decied i want it.
So phoned up and changed the contract price plan
and was not read standard terms and conditions, never recieved them either in any format.
I asked when can i downgrade my price plan and she said month 9 (24 month contract sign up)
However, after googlin' it, it would seem i can downgrade.
So because i was told i will be able to downgrade month 9 by one each time can and will they honnor it if it complain?

I thinking i should ring up in month 8 and say i want to downgrade etc.... rather than play my cards now... what would your advice and expirence be?
