Vodafone Data Traveller on PAYG: Can it be turned off?

Whenever I travel abroad I only want to check the odd email, BBM etc...very little data use. Nonetheless Vodafone immediate charges 2 pounds for their Data Traveller service for 25 MB. Don't need this and don't want the charge. Can I have it turned off?
