Jenny, when you see the naturopath you might ask about aquasol A. It is water soluble, it is not the same as regular vit A. That is why it works on my sister. The oil soluble vit. A was not being used by her body for whatever reason. When she went to water soluble vit. A (aquasol A)the acne went away and has stayed away for decades unless she runs out. In which case it comes back.

Hi everybody.

I have heard that Vitamin A is very effective in making acne go away. But I also read that too much of it can be toxic.

Are there any other vitamins or things I could take with it to prevent the toxication?? And what other vitamins have truly helped acne (specifically moderate to severe)??

I would really appreciate any help and advice!

Hello,
My sister had acne very bad until she was told to take aquasol A(Water soluble vit A and her acne disappeared however if she stops, it comes back. Only the aquasol A worked. It seems her body cannot process oil soluble Vit A. BTW she is now 76 years old and will STILL get acne if she stops the Vit A. Her dose is 50,000 units a day. I know you are told that is to high but it worked for her.

I was finally ablt to clear my hormonal cystic acne by using Evening Primrose Oil. I had been using minocycline with success, but it caused gastritis----so I thought I'd give EPO a shot. It works! Two months and all clear.

Well, the gastritis was relieved by stopping the minocycline, so not sure if the EPO helped that. The EPO has also stopped my extremely heavy menstrual bleeding as a bonus.
My acne was not the type of acne that topical treatments would help, my doctor said the only way to treat it was with antibiotics or birth control pills. Since I couldn't take either I did a little research on EPO. I should stop taking it to see if the acne comes back, but I don't want to!

Hmm I may go on Vitamin A in a bit too.. I'm visiting a naturopath tomorrow and I'm super excited to hear what she has to say!
The deal with Vitamin A is that it's a fat soluble vitamin so it doesn't get excreted out of your system as quickly as the water soluble vitamins ..such as vitamin C for example. Hence why overdosing on vitamin C rarely occurs. (You can have too much though)
So if you're planning on supplementing vitamin A make sure the dosage is suitable for you. Too much can cause liver toxicity! It seems that the recommended daily amount is 5000 to 10,000 IU (international units), but I'm not exactly sure what that means. A health food store can let you know about amounts. Zinc is also good for acne, as well as a complex B vitamin. I'm expecting to go on all of these tomorrow. I'll have to see what the naturopath says. Hopefully this helped somewhat. It's all very confusing..I even get confused with it all..hence searching help from a dr.

Girl cat..did the evening primrose oil help the gastritis? My digestion has been terrible lately and the acidophilus doesn't seem to be helping at all, which is odd. Hmm I'll have to research it. Thanks!

B-5 or pantothenic acid, can be bought at GNC in high dosage which is what is needed for severe acne. For women, any oils with omega 3, 6 or 9 (or all) can help regulate hormones. Flax seed oil, evening primrose oil - I take both, and 4 - 6 pantothenic acid caps a day. But what has really cleared my acne up - spironolactone, one month in and acne is almost gone and no more cysts.
Ask your Dr. This stuff is great for women, however men will not benefit.
Good luck
